It used Saturn family rockets as launch vehicles, which were also used for an Apollo Applications Program , which consisted of Skylab , a space station that supported three manned missions in 1973–74, and the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project , a joint Earth orbit mission with the Soviet Union in 1975. 후에 스카이랩 계획이나 미국 과 소련 의 공동 실험인 아폴로-소유즈 시험 계획 에서도 아폴로 계획 당시에 만들어진 장비를 사용하였으며, 이들 탐사도 아폴로 계획의 일부로 다뤄지기도 한다.
